There’s something about a change in season that makes me want to rethink my closet. Not because I need a whole new wardrobe, but because I want to take stock of what I own, what I’m actually wearing, and what might be missing.

Most of my wardrobe is made up of classic pieces, but I love following what’s current. Every season, I find inspiration in runway shows, fashion editorials, street style, Pinterest and brands I love. It all inspires me to look at my closet with fresh eyes. Sometimes I rediscover something I already own. Sometimes I realize it’s time to retire a piece that’s looking tired. And sometimes I find a few new things that would make everything else feel fresh again.

My approach is simple: KEEP, TOSS, ADD. And always in that order.

What to KEEP

• Your foundation. The classic, year-round pieces you love and wear. Think great jeans, trousers, shirts, sweaters and jackets. If you’re missing any essentials, add them to your shopping list. (Here’s my freshly updated Core Capsule favorites for reference.)

• Pieces that feel current again. Before shopping the season’s trends, see what you already own. You might be surprised how much is hiding in your closet.

• Anything you love. If it fits, flatters and makes you feel great, keep it. Trendy or not.

What to TOSS (or donate, consign or store)

This is where I encourage you to be a little ruthless. If something doesn’t fit, isn’t flattering, looks worn out or simply isn’t getting worn, ask yourself why you’re holding on to it.

What to ADD

Leave this step until last.

Once you’ve edited, you’ll have a much clearer picture of what’s missing. Start with the gaps in your core wardrobe, then have some fun.

Here are some of my favorite Fall/Winter 2026 trends and the pieces I’d actually recommend buying.

Bright colors

Purple, cobalt blue, chartreuse and red (again!) are everywhere this season. Sweaters are one of the easiest ways to bring these colors into your wardrobe. Alex Mill has some great options, including this red half-zip and this purple crewneck.

This cobalt blue sweater from Zara is 100% wool and under $80. So good.

I’m also loving the thin, sexy merino turtlenecks from COS. The purple is already sold out, but red is still available in some sizes (and check out the pattern options too). Great for layering.

Animal prints, dark florals and big plaids

Animal prints are still going strong (python and “Bambi print” are especially hot. I really love these animal prints mixed with bright colors. This oversized Parker Thatch bag, Zara top and these TOTEME mules that I’m drooling over, are all great ways to wear the trend without going overboard.

Dark florals are everywhere. This tapestry-inspired jacket from Reformation looks like something straight off the Ralph Lauren or Dior runway. And it has a detachable faux fur collar! Veronica Beard has a beautiful brocade version with a sharper silhouette.

I love the edgy-meets-feminine look of this dark floral blouse from BA&SH. I’d wear it with jeans and a great leather jacket.

Big, bold plaids are another big pattern trend for Fall Winter. How perfect is this plaid trench? Throw it over the simplest outfit and you’re done.

And this plaid dress would be great with tall boots all season.

Fluffy and feathery textures

Zadig & Voltaire’s faux fur jacket comes in the coolest shade of gray. For something more understated, I love this little J.Crew lady jacket or this bomber.

This brushed cashmere sweater has the prettiest fluffy finish and would look great alone or layered over a long-sleeve tee. And this fuzzy red alpaca cardigan would be fabulous for the holidays.

Dark denim

I just ordered these AG Brinley jeans on sale, and they’re perfect. Dark denim can sometimes feel stiff, but these are incredibly soft and comfortable. They run slightly big, which I like for a relaxed fit. Size down if you prefer something more fitted.

A friend recently introduced me to Jamie Haller jeans. I’m not usually one to spend this much on denim, but she swears the Kenickie is the perfect jean. I’m very tempted. And of course, there’s always the good old Levi’s 501 in selvedge denim. A classic for a reason.

Statement skirts

Statement skirts are having a moment this Fall/Winter, with rich textures and interesting fabrics. I love them paired with button downs or casual sweaters. I’m really into the pencil silhouette. It’s polished and sharp!

This croc-embossed vegan leather skirt from Brochu Walker looks like the Tom Ford version for a fraction of the price. The metallic version would be great for the holidays. I’d wear either with a black sweater or ivory blouse and kitten heels.

How fun is this feather-fringe skirt from Rag & Bone? Wear it with a crisp white button-down and let the skirt do all the talking.

Special jackets

One of my favorite styling tricks is to take a very simple outfit and add a fabulous jacket. Jeans and a tee instantly look like an outfit you put some thought into. Look for interesting fabrics, buttons, trims or unexpected colors.

This ME+EM jacket is a showstopper. The buttons, trim, pockets and fabric are all beautiful. I love that it works with jeans and a tee just as well as with a silk blouse and leather pants. A piece you’ll keep for years.

I love the military inspiration of this Rag & Bone jacket, but it also feels a little rock & roll. This one from Mint Velvet has a similar feel in a lighter color, while this Mango version is a great affordable option.

Lace and lingerie-inspired pieces

I love this trend because it’s a nice break from all the heavy sweaters and coats ahead. A little lace or silk adds something feminine and unexpected, especially layered with leather, suede or chunky knits.

This satin and lace dress with a black leather, velvet or faux fur jacket for date night? Yes, please.

This gray lace-trimmed skirt is so pretty. I’d wear it with a soft charcoal turtleneck, like this one from Falconeri.

Heritage knits

I’ve always loved Fair Isle and argyle sweaters, so I’m thrilled they’re having a big moment. Not that I ever stopped wearing mine.

This sweater from Soeur is knocking my socks off. The slightly fitted waist, relaxed shape, colors and different knitting techniques are exceptional. It’s practically a work of art and definitely on my wish list.

This short-sleeve alpaca cardigan is begging to be part of a layering situation. I love the fuzzy texture. This Fair Isle cardigan from J.Crew is another great option.

The goal isn’t to have a closet packed with clothes. It’s to have a closet that feels like your own little boutique, filled with pieces you love, that fit you well, are in season and that make getting dressed something to look forward to. And sometimes all it takes is a good edit and a few new additions.

XO,

Daisy

Let’s start with jackets because apparently we want all of them. This barn jacket also comes in denim and a very Carhartt olive color, but the small plaid pattern option is really setting the mood for fall.

This cropped trench looks expensive and you would never guess it’s from Zara.

This pinstriped bomber jacket is so good. We’re picturing it with a bright white tee and black jeans. It feels so current and cool.

The knitwear is especially strong this year. This gorgeous Ulla Johnson turmeric Ronan sweater would bring some life to all the brown, camel and denim we’ll inevitably be wearing.

Brushed cashmere is absolutely everywhere this fall ,and this COS cardigan is the perfect balance of comfy and structured.

Brochu Walker’s Neroli orange Havana cardigan’s short sleeves feel right for early fall, and the color is stunning. Wear it buttoned up with jeans, or open over a dress.

A couple of good basics-with-a-twist made the list too like this Nation Los Angeles twist top. It’s a chic alternative to a black tee and jeans outfit and you can wear it with black pants for a night out too.

This plaid button front blouse feels very back-to-school and it’s on sale.

Ann Mashburn has so many great fall new arrivals. This safari shirt is a great alternative to a denim shirt. It’s casual but feels fresh and the green color is so good!

The Celia Jean from Nili Lotan are an investment, but you can pre-order them (shipping around Sept 9th) and try them on for size. They are inspired by the he jeans worn by Jane Birkin and Françoise Hardy in the seventies and are cut from premium Japanese stretch denim. We will be trying them out and can tell they will be super flattering.

These utility pants from Pistola are definitely on the wish list for so many reasons. The cargo details and slouchy curve shape remind us of the ones Rachel wore on Friends back in the day.

We’ve been hearing good things about the Elongator Jeans from ME+EM. We love the wash and the pressed front creases.

For shoes, these black ankle boots are classic enough to wear constantly, but with enough weight to balance wider jeans and trousers.

A. Soliani’s double-buckle flats in amaretto suede check several fall boxes at once: suede, warm brown and a modern Mary Jane shape.

And finally, the bag: Madewell’s Lexington tote looks like a designer bag and it’s under $250. We love every color!

That’s where our wishlist stands for now. Ask us again next week and it may be twice as long.

THE INSPIRATION

There’s something about a great suede jacket with jeans that just works. The designer versions are gorgeous, but there are so many good suede and faux-suede options right now.

OUR PICKS

Let’s start with this blazer from Zara. It’s 100% leather and under $250. We’ve tried Zara suede and it’s excellent. We love the slightly fitted silhouette, but if you prefer something more oversized we suggest this one from ba&sh that’s on sale.

We found this darling trench style for under $200! It’s slightly oversized so size down if you want it more fitted.

This one from All Saints is beautifully constructed and the perfect bomber shape. Reiss has a gorgeous bomber at a slightly higher price point, but it’s still more than half the price of the Veronica Beard bomber (and we like it better).

We included Reformation’s Veda Remi jacket in caramel suede because, although it’s on the pricier side, it’s kinda perfect so we say it’s worth the investment and still a good price.

This boxier, patch-pocket jacket reminds us of the $1800 one from FRAME but it’s under $300. Here’s another patch-pocket style jacket in a lighter color that’s on sale but sizes are going fast.

And here’s a cool, vegan suede jacket that looks like the real thing.

The Button-Down + Full Skirt

We love the proportions and color combination here. A classic blue button-down tucked into a dramatic chocolate brown midi skirt feels feminine without being fussy. The wide belt is what really makes it because it defines the waist and adds some texture to two otherwise very simple pieces.

Styling tip: Roll or push up the sleeves and leave a few buttons undone. A button-down almost always looks better when it’s styled a little less perfectly.

SHOP: One of our favorite button-downs is currently on sale from J. Crew. | This Susana Monaco skirt in brown is so good. | We found this very cool wide croc belt that you can also wear with pants. | These Larroude brown boat shoes are fun, but you could also go with these gorgeous Miu Mius.

The Striped Shirt + Wide-Leg Trouser

Proof that you probably already own the beginnings of a great work outfit. Start with a striped button-down and cream pleated trousers, then add something unexpected: In this case, the red necklace and those fantastic red flats.

Styling tip: When an outfit is made up almost entirely of classics, add one slightly offbeat accessory. The red shoes are what keep this from feeling too “office.”

SHOP: We love this striped shirt because it’s cut really well for a women’s body and feels more polished. | These pleated trousers are very well tailored and constructed for the price. | Red woven flats like these feel a little more office appropriate. | These red beads will go with everything.

The Cardigan + Slouchy Trouser

This might be our favorite and feels like a glimpse of fall. A simple olive cardigan with charcoal pleated trousers feels relaxed but still completely work appropriate. The chic glasses, scarf, belt and boat shoes give it personality.

Styling tip: With a fuller trouser, keep some definition at the waist. Tuck in the layer underneath, wear the cardigan slightly cropped or add a belt so all that volume doesn’t overwhelm you.

SHOP:

First, those round black glasses are so good. Warby Parker makes these ones that are made in Japan that you can get as readers or add your prescription (and are really reasonably priced). | This olive cardigan from Theory is nice and light weight, but they only have size small left. This one is a pretty green and a little cozier. | We absolutely love these charcoal trousers from Ruti! | Here’s a pretty printed scarf for under $40 or you could go the invest route with this stunning Gucci one. | Madewell makes a great black belt with silver buckle, and it’s on sale. | You can’t go wrong with classic Sperry boat shoes. Just add a red cord lace.

Here are three I’ve been wearing on repeat lately.

Jeans + Knit Polo

This is one of my favorite combinations for this weird in-between stretch when it’s still very much summer but I’m starting to crave fall clothes.

I feel a little beachy and a little fall in this combo: my favorite worn-in Levi’s with this fun Alice + Olivia crochet polo (currently marked down) and suede boat shoes. I love how the jeans and boat shoes “casualize” the otherwise dressy top. PS: I’ve also worn this top with ivory trousers when I actually am going someplace dressy.

A knit polo hints at the season ahead without feeling too heavy, especially paired with white or ecru jeans (mine are the classic Banana Republic icon jeans that have that perfect wide, but not too wide, leg opening). This Buck Mason pointelle polo has been my go-to at least once a week lately. It’s soft and comfy and flattering. I like adding pops of brown with all white, like a simple brown belt and my favorite Swedish Hasbeen clogs (I have my eye on these suede clogs that are on sale).

This formula can go super casual, or you can dress it up with a belt, jewelry, a great bag and slightly dressier shoes.

Bermuda Shorts + Tank + Light Jacket

When it’s hot, I tend to default to one of two things: a sleeveless top with pants or a dress. Bermuda shorts give me another option. I like that they don’t show too much leg, and a longer, trouser-style silhouette feels a little more dressed up than your typical shorts. I keep the rest simple with a tee or tank and then add some interest with a lightweight jacket that works when I’m indoors with AC. These black Bermudas are on point. My 21-year old daughter got a pair too! My tank is this one from Ruti and it is such a workhorse. I’ve had it for three years and it still looks great. This belt reminds me of a classic Hermès menswear one, flip-flops are my favorite Tkees, the straw bag is Sézane, which I picked up in Madrid and used every day, and this is the linen Zara blazer I always talk about. (Mine’s a few years old, and it comes a little more oversized now.)

A leopard-print jacket gives this simple Bermuda short outfit a whole lot of personality. I picked this guy up at H&M and am kind of infatuated with it. It’s lined and has the perfect slouch and crop. It was sold out in most sizes but I got an XS (I’m usually a small or medium) and it works. The Bermuda shorts are also H&M (I recommend sizing down), and the classic espadrilles are Soludos (use code DAISY20 for 20% off).

Sundress + Button-Down

Possibly the easiest formula of them all, especially on a really hot day.

Start with a simple sundress and throw a really good button-down over it. That’s basically it. Somehow, whenever I wear this combination, people tell me I look so “nice,” when really it might be the simplest thing I can think of.

I’ll wear it with an unexpected shoe like these suede slingback flats (I guess I’m on my tiptoes so they look like heels here), and add statement earrings or a fun necklace to make the whole thing feel more finished. I love these shiny teardrop earrings.

The best part about an outfit formula is that you don’t have to think too hard. Find a combination that works, repeat it, and just change the pieces. Getting dressed really can be that simple.

If you don’t know Caroline de Maigret, she’s one to add to your style radar. The Paris-born model, music producer and author was discovered by a modeling agency while studying modern literature at the Sorbonne and went on to walk for everyone from Chanel and Dior to Louis Vuitton, Hermès and Balenciaga. She’s also a longtime Chanel ambassador.

But it’s her personal style that has us interested. De Maigret has that very French ability to make great clothes look like they belong to her rather than the other way around. She relies on menswear-inspired pieces, great trousers, denim, blazers and long coats, then throws in something unexpected: a bold print, a feminine blouse, a flash of red, an interesting shoe. Nothing feels overly coordinated or precious, and there’s usually a little tension in the mix that keeps a simple outfit from feeling boring.

She’s particularly good at the high-low, masculine-feminine combinations we love, and at 51, she’s also a great reminder that personal style only gets better when you really know what works for you.

So, we pulled together some of our favorite Caroline de Maigret looks and broke down exactly why they work.

Let’s start with this fresh, simple outfit of white trousers (these Favorite Daughter trousers and excellent) and a red silk blouse like this Gucci beauty, or this French one with white embroidery that’s less of an investment. While we love her red boots, we’d opt for a high profile flat like these Prada ones or these from Quince. Her Paris-Salzburg felt Chanel bag is iconic, but if you’re not up for spending $18K on a bag, we have a few options for you like this sweet Celine bag or this white leather bag with red and blue beads.

Why this look works: It’s slouchy and bold at the same time. The fabrics drape beautifully and feel like a whisper, while the bright red is loud. It’s the tension and balance that makes it so interesting.

Here’s a look to book-mark for fall. An easy combination of cropped black leather pants (like these investments ones or these longer faux leather ones from Ann Taylor at a fraction of the price), a perfect, high-neck black tee and a light-weight camel coat (this one from Vince is 50% off and still available in a few sizes). We are huge fans of lace up mens’ shoes like hers and can’t get these “Office of Us” (formerly the Office of Angela Scott) beauties out of our heads, so perfect for fall! Her cow print bag is adorable and now we all want one.

Why this look works: It’s classic and edgy. She combines rock ‘n roll leather pants and masculine shoes with a lady-like, classic coat and basic tee. And the light camel color over the solid black softens everything. The animal print bag adds the perfect amount of playfulness to the look.

Clearly Caroline likes red, white and blue/black outfits and we’re here for it too. The wide leg jeans (Leenah wide leg style from Paige is so good and comes in various styles and fits) and French Breton striped top are straight from your core capsule. Her coat is Proenza Schouler but we found this Desigual red and black geometric coat on major sale that someone should nab for fall/winter. Her loafers look great with that Chanel Gabrielle bag (we also really like this big white woven bag from Quince). We’d add big sun-glasses like these cool ones from Warby Parker (you can get them in a reader version too!)

Why this look works: The pattern play is vibrant and chic. The jeans and classic loafers keep the rest of the outfit grounded. There’s an underlying nautical theme that isn’t too literal and nothing is too matchy-matchy.

Option 1 (invest)

If you haven’t heard of Imogene + Willie we’re honored to be the ones to introduce you. They’re a brand from Nashville known for their incredible denim (you should definitely check them out). We’re loving this Imogene + Willie brown and white striped tank with Nili Lotan’s Megan Pant or these TOTEME white trousers as the base for the outfit. Tory Burch has a collection of beautifully made, classic belts right now. This one is perfect for the outfit. We’d opt for these delicious chocolate suede sandals from Anonymous Copenhagen and this pave charm layered necklace that’s on sale! And the piece that steals the show: this stunning 18K gold cuff from KHAITE.

Option 2 (more affordable)

We’re going with linen pants for this version. Madewell’s relaxed straight pants are a classic, on sale, and you’ll wear them again next season. Add this tank that you can wear for the next couple months when it’s still warm but want to move into fall colors (and the texture is more sweater-like). We found this great belt from Quince, and these sandals under $100. And finally, this dainty coin necklace and gold cuff finish off the outfit.

Jackets

First up this cropped military-style jacket. We love how the feminine cut balances the utility vibe.

Next is this beautiful crochet-trim knit jacket from Frame. Perfect for dressing up jeans and boots and you could even wear it now over a dress if you need something for those indoor AC moments. Side note: you might want to browse the sale section on the Frame site. There’s a lot of good stuff.

Cinq A Sept’s dark denim jacket is another great fall find that you could wear now (might we suggest pairing it with white jeans?) The details are so unique. It’s one of those pieces that will get you a lot of compliments.

If you’ve been on the hunt for a classic lady jacket, this one is a great deal. We love how they styled it to be less lady and more edgy.

Pants

These A.L.C cargo pants just went on sale so there are still quite a few sizes yet. We all want them. Here’s everything else on sale.

The Slice Frame jeans are 30% off right now. They’re super flattering and a dressier, trouser-style jean that’s perfect for fall.

These wool ankle pants are so fresh and cool. We love them with sandals and a tee in early September when it’s still warm, and then boots and a chunky sweater this fall and winter.

Tops

This Breton top is really well made and will last for years. We’d grab a couple of colors.

And these boat neck, 3/4 sleeve tops are a great fall staple and come in a bunch of colors (Tommy Bahama is 25% sitewide right now so you’ll see the discount when you check out).

Dresses

ME+EM has a lot of dresses on sale right now. This brown patch pocket one feels early fall and we’d wear it with boots.

A denim dress is always a good idea. This one from Gap is under $100 and is a great “one and done” piece for fall (also great with boots).

Lounge

Ever since that beige three-quarter zip was featured on the Chanel runway earlier this year, we’ve been looking for one to style the exact same way. This one from Splendid is perfect! We’d also get this pair of matching joggers for a chic, cozy travel outfit.

Shoes

These boat shoes are perfection and highly rated. They’re final sale, but if you’re a standard size your should be fine. They have a cushioned insole, are flexible and soft (they also come with regular and cute pink laces).

Boots are hard to find this time of year, but we looked high and low for a great pair that still has plenty of sizes and found these chic ones from Staud.

Let’s recreate this laid back, no-brainer look. You probably have something like this in your closet, but these crisp drawstring khakis are so great (we want every color), and a high-neck navy tank seems like a good staple to add if you don’t have one yet. Her glossy red jelly-like flip flops are from Ancient Greek Sandals and those look like our favorite Le Spec Velodrome sunglasses. The bag on the table reminds us of the brand Freja New York. If you haven’t checked our their beautiful vegan bag collection, you should. They are so well made and reasonable.

A silky/satiny set looks incredible polished even though it feels like pajamas. We found this great matching pant and wrap top from H&M at a great price if you want to experiment with this vibe without investing a lot. Accessorize with a luxe bag (love the pattern play with her Goyard bag) and dressy sandals to so it doesn’t read PJs. We would add some beads like these along with her cool ‘90s sunnies to complete the look.

We love this lemon and grapefruit sherbet confection of an outfit. It just screams summer deliciousness. We found this stretch linen yellow dress on sale at Everlane. This light-weight sweatshirt works in case you’re in air-conditioning, and the white kitten heel flip flops and fun raffia bag makes this whole look so playful and yummy! Let’s not forget big oval sunglasses and a coral lip.

This is the easiest warm weather outfit formula hack: linen pants, tank, sandals and a statement necklace. You can probably go into your closet and recreate something like this right now. And if not, you need these pieces. Aritzia’s Effortless Pant in linen are amazing (but they are low in stock). These brown linen trousers from & Other Stories might be even better though. This perfect-fit high-neck tank (it’s actually the name of this tank) is a must-have if you don’t have one yet. Pile on strands of garnet beads, a little crescent shoulder bag (we found this one for under $100), and we’d add espadrille style wedge sandals like these beauties.

When in doubt, white jeans (these ones from Agolde have such a great shape) and a white tee. It could not be easier. Then layer on accessories like a pop of color shoe (Sam Edelman’s red woven flats are so good), a long sculptural corded necklace and this Dragon Diffusion woven bag (tie a scarf or bandana on the bag for some interest). Then throw on your boldest pair pf sunglasses (we love these new chic ones from COS).

If you’re ever standing in your closet wondering what to wear, chances are a great shirt dress is the answer. It’s one of the hardest-working pieces you can own, and perhaps the closest thing fashion has to a universally flattering dress. But what really makes the shirt dress special is that it flatters nearly every body type.

It’s structured and skims the body, the collar frames your face and the longer, vertical silhouette naturally elongates your body. Pus most shirt dresses have details that allow you to customize the fit like a self-tie belt that defines the waist as much (or as little) as you’d like and buttons that let you control the neckline.

Here are our favorite shirt dresses for different body types:

If you’re curvy...

Look for styles with a defined waist or removable belt. Softer fabrics that skim the body, rather than stiff cottons, will highlight your shape without adding bulk.

This stretch-cotton shirt dress nips in at the waist and skims the hips. We love how it looks a little trench-coat-ish and timeless.

You can rely a classic silk shirt dress like this one from Ramy Brook for those moments when you need to dress up but want comfort. It’s always going to be the most flattering thing in your closet.

If you’re straight or athletic...

You can keep it simple with a shorter, straighter silhouette, or opt for details like utility pockets to add dimension.

This tailored, but casual shirt dress creates a waist line with the matching fabric belt.

Sezane’s Adele dress with patch pockets is simple but fun (and popular - there are only a few sizes left).

If you’re pear-shaped...

Choose an A-line or full skirt to help balance proportions beautifully.

Lily Pulitzer for the win with this charming linen shirt dress that nips in at the waist. And this striped one from Gap is a similar silhouette.

And this flattering, festive striped shirt dress works year-round.

If you hide to hide your tummy...

Look for styles that skim rather than cling like a relaxed or A-line shape. Draw attention to other areas with a shorter length if you like to show off your legs, or an open neckline helps draw the eye upward.

This linen shirt dress is easy, comfortable and looks equally chic without the belt.

And if you’re looking for something roomier and longer, this best-selling one from Banana is unique and cool.

If you’re petite...

Look for midi or above-the-knee lengths with a narrower silhouette. Keeping the proportions streamlined helps elongate your frame.

This striped shirt dress is super chic and flattering. The denim version is great too.

And the embroidery detail on this dress is gorgeous in both the blue and white options. (It looks short on the model because she has super long legs but it will hit right above the knee on someone with shorter legs.)

If you’re tall...

Lucky you. Almost every version works. Experiment with dramatic maxi lengths, oversized fits or bold prints that showcase your height.

Frank & Eileen’s Rory shirt dress is popular for a reason. We first spotted it on a woman walking along the beach in Hawaii wearing it as a cover up with a fabulous straw hat. She was a vision and it stuck with us. You’ll get a lot of compliments in this blue linen and the denim in Lapis is very cool (and on sale).

We love the stripes on this one from ME+EM that’s on sale and still available in most sizes. It’s so light-weight and versatile!

A couple of honorable mentions...

The Havana dress is on the top of our list. We’ve tried it, we love it. It comes in tons of colors and looks great with a belt or worn loose. It’s perfect for travel too.

We love the modern, minimalistic vibe of this dress from J. Crew. The color is great now and into fall, and the navy is classic.

One dress. Endless possibilities.

This is where the shirt dress really shines.

Wear it:

• With leather sandals and a straw tote for vacation.

• With white sneakers and a denim jacket for weekends.

• With loafers for the office.

• With heeled sandals and statement earrings for dinner.

• Open over a tank and linen pants or shorts as a lightweight summer layer.

• With tall boots (or tights and flats) and a blazer when the weather cools down.

Our favorite styling tip

Don’t automatically tie the belt.

Sometimes leaving it loose in the back creates a more relaxed silhouette. Other times, swapping the fabric belt for a leather or grasscloth belt (this is our current favorite one) makes the dress feel more elevated.

It’s amazing how one small styling change can make the same dress feel completely different.

There’s a reason the shirt dress has been a wardrobe staple for decades!

The human brain is a prediction machine. It likes patterns because they’re easy to process. But once something is completely predictable, especially when it comes to our personal style, then it’s unforgettable. Even if your goal is simply to look a little more put together, rather than super stylish, we encourage you to challenge yourself just a little and deconstruct your look for a change. We have a few ideas to ease you into this design principle of controlled imbalance. Just like in interior design, architecture, photography and music, imbalance creates energy, while perfect symmetry feels static.

It’s also what neuroscientists call the balance between fluency and novelty. An outfit that’s perfectly matched is visually fluent. The brain understands it instantly. But because there’s no tension, there’s nothing to explore. Add one unexpected element and suddenly the brain wakes up and that tiny moment of curiosity is pleasurable to the eye because it adds interest.

It’s art and science and we’re going to help you get started:

Use tension to create personality.

Perfectly coordinated outfits can be beautiful. But they can also feel predictable. The most stylish women often combine pieces that tell different stories.

A polished blazer with relaxed denim

Get the look:

It might feel a little warm for this outfit depending on where you live, but file this one away for later in the year or for a cooler evening. We love how the classic heeled sandals (these are on major sale and you’ll wear them constantly) keep the look summery, while the wool blazer, relaxed denim (we just tried this pair from Madewell and they’re so good) and the perfect chambray shirt bridges it into fall. Finish it off with a cute tan clutch.

Party shoes with jeans and a button down

Get the look:

These fun metallic flats and silver cuff say party but the rest out the outfits is staying simple with a relaxed button-down (the Étienne shirt is back in stock at 50% off right now), perfectly faded light wash denim and a cute woven bag. Your brain needs a minute to put it all together and that’s what makes it unexpected and interesting.

Masculine loafers with a feminine skirt.

Get the look:

This is how you make the outfit feel like it belongs uniquely to you, not out of a catalogue or off of a mannequin.

We love how she paired classic loafers (these are our current crush and these are a budget-friendly option) with something playful like this striped green skirt. Finish the look with a crisp blue button-down, a tailored blazer. and an eye-catching necklace and brown leather clutch (hers is Céline, but we like this Big Buddy from Parker Thatch even better).

Create contrast to makes every piece stronger.

One of the fascinating things about tension is that each piece enhances the other. An evening clutch makes a simple cotton dress feel even more effortless. And the casual dress makes the bag feel even more luxurious. Neither piece changes. Our perception of them does.

Get the look:

Opposites don’t compete, they amplify each other. A linen maxi skirt, matching linen blouse, and black sandals creates a perfect blank canvas. Create contrast with a bright woven bag (hers is Bottega Veneta but this one is a great alternative), a fun scarf around the waist, and simple gold jewelry.

The trick is balance.

Of course, not every unexpected combination works. The goal isn’t chaos, but just enough tension to create interest while keeping the overall outfit grounded. And bottom line, you have to like it and feel good so experiment and go with your gut. When in doubt, just work with one unexpected element and remind yourself the goal is to feel creative and have fun. And definitely don’t worry about what anyone else thinks - this is all about expressing yourself.

Try basic contrasting pieces.

The easiest way to experiment is to introduce a single contradiction.

Wear a military shirt over a dress.

Get the look:

Layer an army shirt over a dress like this pretty knit one that’s on sale. Add t-strap black sandals and a leather bag. The only contradiction is the jacket. It’s really that easy.

Pair a beachy linen look with a suede bag.

Get the look: Everyone seems to be wearing striped linen pants this season and Madewell has our favorites. The contrast stripe at the bottom is chic and they even have them in a short length so you can keep the hem even if you don’t have long legs. Add your favorite button-down, some ‘70s sunnies and create contrast with a suede camel bag.

Wrap a sarong over a white button down.

Get the look: A simple, tailored white linen button down contrasts perfectly with an unstructured, earthy printed sarong. And classic Hermès-inspired sandals contrast the straw fedora.

Wear polished trousers with a simple tank.

Get the look: The outfit is tonal but the casual gray tank is unexpected with the polished tailored trousers. Add ‘90s black sunglasses, a woven bag and a designer-feeling belt (this one is so cute). The black sandals work but a pair of black ballet flats would add a little more femininity, creating even more visual interest.

We hope you’ll experiment and have fun. This is actually the essence of personal style. Anyone can buy beautiful clothes. Style comes from how you combine opposing ideas:

• masculine + feminine

• polished + relaxed

• vintage + modern

• tailored + oversized

• luxury + humble

• structured + fluid

• practical + glamorous

Let us know how it goes!

Let’s start with something casual for everyday wear: running errands, meeting a friend for coffee, or playing Mahjong (if you’re not playing yet, you will be soon). She’s pulling off these tomboy cargo pants because they’re balanced by a preppy striped shirt thrown over her shoulders, a luxe bag like this one and a pair of rock 'n' roll sandals like these that are 40% off right now. The addition of modern shades (these are under $20), bangles and stacks of necklaces (notice that awesome horn pendant peeking out) takes an otherwise simple cargo-and-tee outfit to a look with tons of interest. Side note: Z-Supply has the best cap sleeve tee like hers if you are looking for one.

Next up is the greatest evening outfit hack of all time: long, dark denim trousers (these are a good wider-leg option) and a perfectly fitted navy or black tee. Her necklace stack is totally on point: a short, sparkly tennis-style necklace (Dorsey’s lab-grown sapphire necklace has the most amazing glimmer effect), then a larger semi-precious charm (Jen Meyer’s turquoise and diamond heart is still on our wish list), then a longer, personalized dog tag-style necklace and an even longer one (we’d do a small locket). She has a few other shorter pieces tucked into the tee, but just follow this four-necklace formula for the perfect stack. We love the idea of adding a casual fabric strap to a designer bag to change the vibe and add a pop of color, and we’re imagining her in some chic but comfy boots with a little height like these (read the ratings, they’re worth the splurge).

Here’s a great outfit to remember when you’re having one of those "I have nothing to wear and need to leave in five minutes" moments. Grab your favorite chambray shirt and don’t forget to roll up the sleeves (this one is the perfect shade of light blue if you’re on the hunt), a fun patterned skirt like this one we just found and want and happens to be 40% off, or this one with texture. Then throw on gladiator sandals and a crossbody fancier bag like this quilted one. The mis-match of a summer outfit with a dressier evening bag creates the perfect amount of tension and that’s the essence of style. Great design almost always has controlled imbalance.

We love this look for travel or maybe a staycation activity like a day at the beach, wine tasting or a backyard party. Striped pants might seem intimidating, but the vertical lines are elongating and give an outfit instant character. We love these ones from Sezane and these from Anthropologie. Her easy cotton top is darling (check out this less revealing option) and allows the pants to be the hero of the outfit. Again, her accessories are doing a lot of work to make this outfit feel special: a statement bangle like this one and her sculptural earrings are eye-catching (these give a similar vibe), and the mini straw bag and big-buckle sandals (here are those exact ones) add texture.

Here’s an outfit we’d wear to the office, a work meeting, a day at a museum or to meet a friend for a drink. Pair a perfect blue button-down with a crisp khaki skirt or wide-leg pants (this one from Banana is 30% off and has cool stitching). Give it a little feminine touch with a brooch (her fabric one is super cute, but check out this one). Add a designer belt and chic sneakers like these plus a men’s Louis Vuitton duffle (we’d opt for a previously owned one from The Real Real in excellent condition, at half the price).

We love this kind of boho, youthful-looking outfit for the weekend. Jorts can be polarizing, but a slightly oversized, faded black pair (we like these classic Levi’s Dad ones) with a western belt is working here (PS - Lucky’s western belt is now under $40). Add a black pattern peasant blouse, like this stunner or this one from Farm Rio that’s on major sale, to balance out the edge, then throw on some big reflective sunnies and fun sandals like these fab tortoise ones we found under $100!

We’ve love to hear from you - what would you like more of? 1. Outfit inspiration like this, 2. Curated finds and sales, 3. Style icons and how to get their style, 4. Style hacks, 5. All of the above, 6. Other (tell us!)

First up is this cotton dress from Ulla Johnson. We love how it works for a summer event, the office, a night out and well into fall with boots.

If you’re still looking for a white blouse for summer, we’ve got one for you from Gap that just arrived (and will sell out fast). It also comes in a chic brown.

Jennifer Behr’s new turquoise-beaded Ryan Necklace is officially on our wish list.

Reiss’s Metallic Argyle Open-Knit Top in Gunmetal Grey looks very Brunello Cucinelli for a fraction of the price. We’re picturing it with everything from jeans to ivory trousers.

These aren’t exactly freshly dropped, but they are recent and, more importantly, newly on sale, so we had to shareI! We’re really (like, really) into the wicker Mary Jane combination.

We found this cute cotton knit polo that’s new on the Mango site, that we want it iboth pink and this preppy green.

The Everything Pant from Favorite Daughter just came out ,and we love the name because they truly are a pant for everything. They’re equal parts beach pant, office pant, travel pant and evening pant.

This green ba&sh blouse is one of those pieces that can feel dressy or casual depending on what you wear it with. It’s perfect now and will transition beautifully into fall. In fact, it would be great with black velvet pants during the holidays. The understated beige color is a great option too.

Bandana Prints

This relaxed fit silk brown bandana shirt from Nili Lotan is gorgeous. It even has subtle logo buttons. We also love Veronica Beard’s soft cotton version with pretty embroidery details on the collar and cuffs. And check out this amazing handkerchief print shirt from Gerard Darel - especially the back!

Talk about Parisian Chic - This one from Maje is perfection (and 40% off). And we’re picturing this gray-blue shirt from Doen with white jeans and a brown sandal.

Geometric

This LA DOUBLEJ Foulard shirt is a splurge piece but so incredible gorgeous.

And this fun stripe combo pattern shirt is only available is in size 2 and 6 and if that’s your size, it’s your lucky day because it’s also on sale.

The color contrast and tiny diamond pattern of this silk shirt is one you can wear year-round

Animal

You can always count on Frank & Eileen for great shirts. This new animal print in linen has a slight shimmer to it and is a show-stopper. We also love this organic cotton zebra number.

How cool is this pink ba&sh snake skin shirt? It also comes in blue. We’d wear it with long, dark denim or black jeans as a new “going out” top.

Not exactly an animal “print”, but this fish pattern is a fantastic color blue.

Floral

This floral shirt looks like it’s Zimmerman but at half the price.

We’d wear this cool Cuban style shirt with with cropped jeans flip flops.

And this expensive looking, bold floral shirt from Desigual would look so cool with wide-leg linen or silk pants.

Most wardrobes don’t need a complete overhaul. More often than not, they just need one piece that changes the mood. Here are five small additions that have a way of making getting dressed more fun.

1. A Color You Don’t Normally Wear

If your closet is full of black, navy, olive, beige, and white, try adding one happy color. Not head-to-toe. Just one piece, maybe two.

Maybe it’s sunflower yellow.
Maybe it’s tomato red.
Maybe it’s cornflower blue.

One unexpected color has a funny way of making everything else in your closet feel fresh again. Here are some fun colorful pieces we love:

These bright yellow terry cloth pants from Suzie Kondi are finally on sale! The green is great too.

A red short sleeve sweater looks great with jeans or a camel skirt or trousers.

These bold blue pants are so good.

2. A Scarf That Does More Than One Thing

Around your neck. In your hair. Tied to your tote. As a belt. A simple cotton or silk scarf is one of those pieces that seems to reinvent itself every time you wear it.

Madewell has a versatile, medium size silk scarf that comes in a bunch of fun patterns and is marked way down right now.

We love this animal print scarf with fringe.

3. A Fun Pair of Earrings

You don’t need an evening out to wear statement earrings. Throw them on with a white tee and messy bun for instant personality. It’s amazing what a little color or texture near your face can do.

We love this take on fish earrings that includes pretty semi-precious stones.

Pretty sure anyone who wears these carnelian earrings will receive multiple compliments.

4. A Striped Tee

A striped tee has a little more personality than a solid one, but it’s just as versatile. It plays well with denim, linen, skirts, shorts… you’ll wonder why you don’t wear one every day.

This Rag & Bone shrunken striped tee is retro and cool.

Pistola’s boxier shape option comes in three great colors.

5. A Great Summer Hat

A woven hat has a way of making even the simplest outfit feel a little extra summery and cool. Whether you’re headed to the farmers market, or just out for coffee.

We have a huge crush on this hat from Monday Swimwear.

You can wear the exact same outfit and instantly change the mood with a different pair of sunglasses. Here are a few trends straight from the runways that are everywhere this season:

Round and Oversized

Think bug-eye, exaggerated Jackie O-inspired styles. Luxury designers are embracing this trend, and we think it’s well worth investing in a pair.

LOEWE Anagram 50MM Oval Sunglasses.

Jackie OHH II, by Ray-Ban.

‘90s Inspired

Thin, oval-shaped frames in acetate or and wire-rim styles are the new classics.

Rag & Bone Milly oval sunglasses.

Mallorca Polarized Acetate Sunglasses from Quince.

Shield Sunglasses

Nearly every designer has introduced their own version of shield sunglasses. We love the drama (and the extra sun protection) this style brings.

Someone should nab these Prada Shield sunglasses on The Real Real.

Jimmy Fairly Paris, The Luz in dark tortoise.

Colors and Patterns

Bold colors and contrasting patterns were featured in many 2026 runway collections and they’re an easy way to add personality to your outfit.

DiorGlow B1I Sunglasses in dark green, by Dior.

Sardine’s Demi in cherry bomb.

Cat-Eye

A modern cat-eye instantly makes an outfit feel more polished. This season’s versions are a little softer and less dramatic, making them surprisingly easy to wear with everything from denim to dresses.

Gucci Gradient Cat-Eye sunglasses.

Bungalow Cat-Eye sunglasses from J. Crew.

1. They wear fewer colors.

Instead of combining three or four colors in one outfit, they often stick to one or two (usually neutrals) and often go tonal. Think natural linen with black pants. Navy with cream. All grey. It immediately feels calmer and more intentional.

Get the look: Oversized linen blazer, white tank, black cropped linen trousers, burgundy sling backs and woven bag.

2. They invest in fabrics and play with textures.

Cotton poplin, silk, linen, lightweight wool, suede, corduroy...these fabrics drape beautifully and look so interesting together.

Get the look: Romantic lace cotton blouse, green skirt, cap-toe sling backs, bucket bag (this one is a cool design and this two-tone Strawthberry beauty is 30% off ), plus big glam ‘70s sunnies.

3. They love tailoring.

Nothing has to be skin tight, but clothes should skim the body. Relaxed trousers still fit at the waist. Blazers still have shape. Even oversized pieces feel purposeful.

Get the look: pleated taupe trousers, a white crisp button down, and suede bloack heel sandals like these or these gorgeous ones from Anonymous Copenhagen.

4. They know when to stop.

One interesting piece is usually enough. The rest of the outfit stays simple with capsule pieces. That restraint is often what makes an outfit memorable.

Get the look: Vintage 501 jeans (Etsy is a great resource too), an oversized white tee, a navy cardigan (it’s so good), Belgian loafers (hers are likely Belgian Shoes brand but these navy blue ones are a cool take on the vibe), and the hero: this extra large bandana scarf that we’ve been wanting all season!

5. They finish with great accessories.

This might be the biggest difference.

Instead of buying five trendy tops, they’ll buy classic but unique and often bold pieces they wear every day. Accessories make simple clothes look expensive.

Get the look: Black blazer (100% worth the investment), black tee, gold beads, and a canvas designer bag (her’s is the Celine Triomphe Pouch, but this one is just as cute for a fraction of the price).

“I love taking care of my skin. I think it started early for me because I had bad acne as a teen. As much as I’m trying to simplify my routine, I still like a multi-step regimen, but everything has to be doing something that noticeably improves my skin.”

My day starts with a mild face wash because it’s technically clean, I just need to remove last night’s products. I recently started using Clinique’s “take the day off” (or “take the night off" for me), and not only do I love the nostalgia of the brand (I feel like I should be wearing an ESPRIT sweatshirt with a scrunchie in my hair), but it cleans my face without making it dry. In fact, my face feels moisturized and fresh after using it. It also apparently conditions your lashes!

I then splash on Kiehl’s Ferulic Brew which is supposed to help with texture (my main problem these days) and give your skin a glow over time. This bottle has lasted me a year, I think! I can’t believe I’m finally almost out.

I moisturize with Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream SPF 30. It’s so lightweight and cooling. You don’t need much. They say it was proven to significantly reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in just 2 weeks, and I actually think it has. I’ll be reordering even though it’s pricey.

On days when my skin is looking dull, I also add Merit’s Great Skin to gives me that glassy glow, plus it reduces redness.

I then double up on sunscreen with this Alastin Skincare tinted moisturizer. The last time I got Botox, I complimented my esthetician/nurse on her beautiful complexion and she told me said she was only wearing this as her makeup. She recommended it for skin protection and I now use it every day. It has just the right amount of coverage and doesn’t feel heavy or clog my pores at all. Plus it’s doing good stuff to my skin while it protects it from the sun and smooths out my imperfections.

I’ve posted before about the often-sold-out Chanel Bronzing Cream. I still probably have another 6 months of product left here and it’s lasted over a year already! It is the absolute best for a glowy “tan”. The team looked everywhere for it because it’s sold out on the Chanel site, Ulta, Nordstrom, Bloomingdales - but we did find it at Herold’s London, so here’s the link but you probably need to hurry! I’m getting one now just in case.

I first heard about this hair cream from Andrea Linett and man, do I love it! We’re both naturally curly haired gals and agree it’s the best stuff. It hydrates and adds shine to dry, dull hair.

At night I’ve been washing with Doctor Rogers Face Wash. I need something that’ll take off the sunscreen but not strip my face and this does the trick.

I am a huge fan of this Resurfacing Brightening Serum. It does a little overnight magic trick on my face. I wake up with skin that is brighter and my texture got better after just a few uses. I have completely run out and just reordered it.

I also started using Dr. Diamond’s Metacine INSTAFACIAL® INFUSION because they sent it to me (warning, it’s very expensive). Now I am a total convert. It’s apparently very scientific stuff, all I know is it firms, lifts & hydrates my skin.

Because it’s expensive I alternate the Dr. Diamond stuff with my TNS Serum. I’ve been using this product since I was in my early thirties. Back then I was a freelance video producer and produced a testimonial video for Skinmedica and they gave me a case of the TNS Recovery Complex. Of course now I have to buy it (it’s pricey), but I feel like it’s actually slowed down the aging process because of the growth factors.

When my skin needs a little extra moisture and TLC I use this Fresh overnight mask (the travel size is perfect to throw in your carry-on and use on long flights - thank me later). It really hydrates and I feel like my face is lifted when I wake up.

I just ran out of this eye cream and need to reorder asap because I swear it’s doing stuff. My eyelids seem tighter and brighter plus I have fewer lines. The before-and-afters on the web site are very impressive so I’m sticking with it.

The best part? You don’t have to overthink it. Throw one on with your favorite jeans, white denim, black denim, linen shorts, even utility pants and suddenly your outfit looks like you made an effort (even if you didn’t).

Nothing feels fresher than eyelet paired with lived-in blue denim.

Sezane has a lot of beautiful options like this one.

This one is gorgeous and it comes in poppy red!

The eyelet design is featured just on the bottom of this beautiful blouse from Frame. This navy one is so pretty and on sale.

And if you’re looking for something more minimalist, Xirena has this one that also comes in white and light pink.

Head over to DAISY to see our favorite eyelet tops this week, plus personalized recommendations based on your style. There’s a good chance you’ll find the one you’ll wear on repeat for the rest of the summer.

And for many of us, she’s also the woman who married Duran Duran frontman Simon Le Bon at the height of the band’s fame. The sweetest part? They’re still together more than 40 years later. In celebrity years, that’s practically unheard of.

Now 61, Yasmin is still modeling, a grandmother, collaborating with fashion brands, sitting front row at fashion week, and proving that great style only gets better with age. What we love most is that she never looks like she’s trying too hard. Her wardrobe is relaxed, sophisticated, a little masculine at times, and always incredibly chic.

Let’s get inspired...

Let’s first go way back to this Y2K look that feels fresh today. A military-inspired jacket paired with blue utility pants, a masculine belt contrasted with a glam, red Chanel-esque bag is just as cool now as it was twenty years ago.

Shop the look:

Utility jacket: This is one trend that really isn’t a trend anymore. Let’s update it with a more oversized version. We love this one from Nili Lotan, and we found this menswear version on sale for under $40 at Urban.

Blue utility pants: These navy ones are sleek and simple and even a little low rise, but we really like those back flap pockets so we’d opt for these French blue more utility style.

Black belt: Nothing flashy. Just a simple leather belt that pulls everything together. This perfect one from Frame is marked way down.

Red quilted bag: Her Chanel is iconic (here’s a vintage one from the ‘80s on The Real Real in good condition), but there are beautiful quilted bags at every price point that deliver the same pop of color.

We’re imagining she’s in fun, strappy kitten heels like these.

Last year Yasmin partnered with George at Asda (a very affordable U.K.-based brand not available in the U.S.) as the face of its Summer 2025 campaign. Her outfit is tailoring done the modern way. The oversized blazer, pleated shorts, and simple tank feel polished without feeling corporate. Add black ballet flats, and suddenly it’s the outfit you’ll wear all summer.

Shop the look:

Oversized linen blazer: A relaxed blazer is one of those pieces you’ll reach for constantly.

Pleated linen shorts: Look for a longer inseam with soft pleats. These from Banana Republic are beautiful, and this pair from Theory is worth the investment.

Neutral tank: Keep it simple. A great scoop neck tank from LESET does the trick.

Ballet flats: Instead of lace-ups we’d go with a mesh flat this year.

Her monochromatic olive outfit feels sophisticated and she adds whimsy with an oversized knit. Hers, of course Chanel, but we found this Mui Mui that’s pretty amazing (and a simpler option below) We love the classic Chanel shoes and bag paired with those utility-inspired pants and shirt.

Shop the look:

Olive jumpsuit: This soft utility jumpsuit from Ralph Lauren is stunning. If you love streamlined looks and easy outfits this is a great investment. You can tuck in the drawstrings on the bottom if you want it more classic when you wear it with heels and let them out when you wear it with flat sandals. It can be dressy or casual and perfect for travel.

You could also opt for this gorgeous corduroy Scotland Getaway Set from Frank & Eileen. Someone must be heading to Scotland who needs this.

Chunky knit cardigan: Look for texture and a slightly oversized fit (here’s a simple but lux one). It’s the layer you’ll throw over everything once fall arrives.

Cap-toe slingbacks: Chanel made these iconic for a reason. They somehow work with absolutely everything. Ally makes a pair and their shoes are so comfortable! The leather is padded with an ergonomically-designed insole, good arch support, and they have four different widths.

Quilted tote: This padded one from Quince is so good.
