The lines are long, the day is full, and the outcome feels decided somewhere far away from our kitchen tables. But voting is one of the few places where every one of us gets exactly the same voice. Not more because of money or titles. Not less because we're tired, busy or unsure.

For my family, this isn't abstract. We come from Brazil, and in the 1970s Brazil was living under a military dictatorship. People didn't get to freely choose who led them, and speaking up could be dangerous. My family knows what it means to live without that choice. So voting in a democracy is something we don't take for granted. It's a privilege people fought for, and one that can quietly slip away when we stop using it.

So much of the work I do with clients comes back to the same question: are you living by default, or by design? Voting is a version of that question. Skipping it is a choice too. It just hands the decision to someone else.

You don't need to have every answer to show up. You don't need to agree with everyone in your family, your group chat or your neighborhood. You need to take the time to look at what's on your ballot, decide what matters most to you, and say it out loud in the one way that's counted.

If you haven't voted yet, here's your nudge. Look up your polling place, check what's on your ballot, block an hour on your calendar and bring a friend. If you're a parent, take your kids. Let them see that showing up is part of how we take care of the places we live.

Your voice matters today. Use it.

What If Ease Were Your Compass?

So many of us run our lives off a Fin on Unsplash

So many of us run our lives off a list. The next goal, the next yes, the next thing that will finally prove we’re doing it right. And when we hit it, the feeling lasts about a day before the next list shows up.

I see this with clients all the time, and I know it in myself. We set goals around what we want to have or achieve, when what we’re really after is how we want to feel.

That’s where core desired feelings come in, an idea Danielle LaPorte made popular. Instead of asking “What do I want to accomplish?” you ask “How do I want to feel?” Then you let those feelings guide your choices, your calendar and even your yeses and nos.

For me lately, one of those feelings is ease. Not laziness, and not everything going perfectly. Ease is the feeling of moving through my day without forcing it. Fewer things competing for my attention. Room to breathe between the meetings.

To find yours, think of a recent moment when you felt really good and write down what you were feeling, not what happened. Look for the words that keep coming back. Three to five usually rise to the top, like ease, freedom, connection, joy or clarity. Then check each one: does it feel true to you, or does it sound like something you’re supposed to want?

Once you have them, they become a filter. Before saying yes to something, ask whether it brings you closer to how you want to feel or further away. Look at next week’s calendar and notice where your feeling has room and where it’s getting crowded out. And when you catch yourself chasing the next accolade, pause and ask what feeling you’re hoping it will give you. There may be a simpler way to get there.

Achievements still matter. They just make a much better result than a compass.

Eleven Days

On midterms, responsibility, and the vote you keep Newbry on Unsplash

The midterms are on Tuesday, November 3. In a lot of places, early voting is already open.

I know. Midterms don’t get the same energy as a presidential year. Fewer headlines, fewer people talking about it at dinner, and a ballot full of names you may not recognize. It’s easy to file this one under “important, but not urgent.”

That’s exactly the category I spend most of my time helping people get out of.

The people I work with are responsible to the core. They carry teams, companies, families. They don’t miss deadlines that other people set for them. But the things that are important and not urgent, the ones no one is chasing them for, those slide. Year after year.

This election is full of those. Every seat in the House is on the ballot, along with 35 Senate seats, and governors, state legislators, judges, school boards, and local measures in many places. These are the people deciding things that land on your actual Tuesday: your taxes, your kids’ schools, your roads, the rules your business runs under. Local races especially can come down to small margins.

And still, I hear the same reasons. “One vote won’t change anything.” “I don’t know enough about the down ballot races.” “I’ll figure it out next week.”

Here’s what I’m curious about. If someone on your team said their input didn’t matter so they’d stopped offering it, would you call that realistic? Or would you want to know what belief was sitting underneath it?

Who you vote for is yours. I care about the story that says your voice is optional. That story rarely stays in one place. If you’ve decided it doesn’t count at the ballot box, it’s worth checking where else it’s running.

So here’s the invitation for the next eleven days. Keep it small and concrete:

Look it up today. Your state or local election office website has your early voting dates, locations, and a sample ballot. Vote.gov will point you there.

Read your ballot before you go. Pick the two or three races you know least about and spend twenty minutes on them. You don’t need to become an expert. You need enough to make a choice you can stand behind.

Put it on your calendar. An actual block, with a time and a place. Early voting windows close before Election Day, and “I’ll do it next week” has a way of turning into November 4.

You don’t need perfect information. You don’t need to feel certain. You just need to stop waiting for permission to matter.

You already do.

Successful, Capable, and Last on Your Own on Unsplash

You know how to lead. You run the meeting, make the hard call, hold things together when they get messy. People count on you, and you deliver.

So here’s a question I ask a lot of the high achievers I work with: when was the last time you led your own life with that same care?

Not your calendar. Your life.

For many of us, the honest answer is “I don’t remember.” We got good at being needed. We got rewarded for saying yes, staying late, and being the one who figures it out. Somewhere along the way, our own needs slid to the bottom of the list, and then off it. Some of us have gone so long without asking what we need that we’re not even sure what the answer would be anymore.

That isn’t a character flaw. It’s what happens when success gets measured by how much you can carry.

And it rarely looks like a crisis. More often it looks like this:

The workout that keeps moving to “next week.”

Something you used to love that you now talk about in the past tense.

Being fully present in every meeting and half present at dinner.

Feeling guilty when you rest, and calling the guilt “drive.”

Getting asked “what do you want?” and answering with your job or your family’s needs.

None of these is a big deal on its own. Together, they add up to a life you’re managing instead of living.

We usually talk about leadership as something we do for other people. But the leaders I admire most lead themselves first. They know what keeps them steady, and they protect it the way they’d protect a key client or a board meeting.

That isn’t indulgent. It’s what lets you keep showing up. You can’t lead well from empty, and you can’t keep running on a version of yourself that hasn’t been checked on in years.

So where do you start, especially if you’ve lost sight of what your needs even are?

Start smaller than you think. You don’t need a perfect routine or a total overhaul. You need a little information and one honest choice. Try this over the next week:

Notice. At the end of each day, write two lines. When did I feel most like myself today? When did I feel drained, or like I couldn’t catch my breath?

Name one need. Not ten. One. Movement, quiet, creativity, sleep, time with someone you love. Pick the one that keeps showing up in your notes.

Put it on the calendar like it matters. Because it does. Give it the same weight as a meeting you’d never cancel.

Watch what tries to take its place. That’s where the real work is, and it’s worth getting curious about.

And one question to sit with this week: if you led your own life the way you lead everything else, what would you do differently?

If you are a woman or female identifying in Austin, come (Re)Claim what you need and want for yourself, at our intimate, magical, healing one-day women’s retreat. a little quiet.

Not because they do not care about it. Because it feels impossibly large. Like it is supposed to arrive fully formed, announced clearly, unmistakable. And until it does, there is a creeping sense that you are somehow behind. Missing something everyone else seems to have already figured out.

But that is not how purpose works, in my experience. Not for most people, and not for me.

Purpose is rarely a revelation. It is a pattern you can only see looking back. It is the conversation that lit you up when you expected nothing from it. The project you lost track of time inside. The connection that stayed with you longer than made obvious sense. The small act of generosity or curiosity you almost skipped but did not.

All of it is you, sprinkling yourself across your days, leaving traces of what actually matters in places you were not even paying attention to at the time.

The work is not to find your purpose before you begin living. The work is to stay curious enough to notice what keeps showing up. The ideas that will not leave you alone. The people who feel like they belong in your story. The moments where something in you says, quietly but clearly, yes, this.

None of it is random. It is assembling something. Slowly, sometimes invisibly, but genuinely.

You are not behind. You are in the middle of it.

Where in your life, when you look back even just six months, can you see a thread you did not know you were weaving?

The Gift of Starting Clean

Once a year, many people around the world stop everything and do stop everything and do something radical.

They look back honestly. Not to punish themselves, not to spiral into regret, but to actually reckon with the year that has passed. The moments they are proud of and the ones they are not. The relationships they nurtured and the ones they neglected. The version of themselves they showed up as, and the version they intended to be.

And then, with intention and with humility, they choose to let it go.

There is something profound in that practice that extends far beyond any one tradition or faith. The act of honest self-examination followed by genuine release is one of the most courageous and quietly transformative things a human being can do. Most of us avoid it. Not because we do not care, but because looking clearly at ourselves requires a kind of courage that the pace of ordinary life makes very easy to skip.

Forgiveness is part of it. Forgiving others for where they fell short. Forgiving yourself, perhaps most importantly, for where you did. Not as a way of excusing what happened, but as a way of freeing yourself from carrying it forward into the next chapter. Resentment and self-criticism are heavy things. They cost more than most of us realize.

And underneath all of it is gratitude. For the year in its entirety, the good and the hard and the unexpected. For the lessons that only the difficult moments could have delivered. For the people who stayed and even, sometimes, for the ones who didn’t.

You do not need a formal holiday to do this kind of reckoning. But when the invitation arrives, in whatever form it takes, it is worth accepting.

What from this past year are you ready to release? And what are you genuinely grateful for that you have not yet stopped to name?

The Setback Is Not the Story. Information you would not have had any other way, arriving in a form you did not ask for and probably did not want, but valuable all the same.

The plan that fell apart tells you something true. Maybe the timing was wrong. Maybe the direction needed adjusting long before this moment made it obvious. Maybe the thing you were building toward was never quite aligned with what you actually wanted, and this disappointment is the clearest signal you have gotten in a long time.

None of that makes the disappointment disappear. It is still real. It still deserves to be felt rather than bypassed with forced positivity. But underneath the frustration is almost always a redirection worth paying attention to.

The people who move forward well are not the ones who avoid setbacks. They are the ones who let the setback teach them something, then use that information deliberately rather than letting it just be something that happened to them.

What looks like a closed door is often a more honest map of where to actually go next.

What is a recent disappointment that might be trying to redirect you? best ideas have never arrived at my desk.

They have come on walks, in coffee shops, on planes, in the middle of a conversation that had nothing to do with work. They have surfaced in the shower, on a slow drive, during a meal I was actually present for. In the in-between places. The unstructured ones. The ones where nothing was required of me except to simply be somewhere.

There is a reason for that, and it is not a productivity hack or a creativity trick. It is something more fundamental about how the human mind actually works.

When we sit in the same physical space, surrounded by the same cues, the same objects, the same light, the same ambient sounds, we tend to think the same thoughts. Our environment is not neutral. It primes us. It pulls us back into familiar grooves, familiar problems, familiar ways of seeing. Which is useful for executing known tasks and deeply limiting for generating anything genuinely new.

But move the body to a different place and something shifts. The nervous system wakes up slightly. The senses take in new input. The brain, no longer on autopilot, begins making different connections. The problem you have been staring at from the same angle for three weeks suddenly looks different from a corner table in a café you have never been to before. The decision that felt impossibly stuck loosens when you are walking somewhere unfamiliar with no particular destination in mind.

This is flow. Not the forced, white-knuckled kind where you are trying to manufacture inspiration through sheer willpower. The real kind. The kind that arrives when you give your mind just enough novelty and just enough spaciousness to stop performing and start actually thinking.

You do not need to travel far. A different room, a park bench, a library, a new coffee shop, an afternoon somewhere you have never worked before. The distance is almost irrelevant. What matters is the change. The signal to your brain that something is different today, that the usual rules do not apply, that there is room here for something new to arrive.

Some of the most important thinking you will ever do will not happen at your desk.

Where is a place you have been meaning to take your work, or your thinking, that you keep putting off? What might be waiting for you there?

Feedback Is a Gift. We know intellectually that it helps us grow. And then it arrives, sometimes clumsily, sometimes bluntly, sometimes from a source we did not expect, and something in us immediately contracts. Gets defensive. Starts building a case for why they are wrong or why they missed the context or why this particular piece of criticism does not apply.

That reaction is human. It is also worth examining.

Because underneath the defensiveness is almost always something worth listening to. Not necessarily the feedback itself taken at face value, not every piece of criticism is accurate or well-intentioned, but the charge it carries. The reason it landed the way it did. The grain of truth that is easier to dismiss than to sit with.

The most growth I have witnessed in people, and the most I have experienced myself, has come not from the moments of validation but from the moments of honest, uncomfortable reflection that good feedback forces. The kind that holds up a mirror and shows you something you had been carefully avoiding seeing.

Receiving feedback well is a skill. It requires enough security in yourself to hear something hard without it dismantling you. Enough humility to consider that someone else’s perspective might contain something useful even when the delivery was imperfect. And enough courage to ask, before you dismiss it entirely, is there something true here?

That pause, between receiving and reacting, is where the growth lives.

What is a piece of feedback you have received recently that you have not fully let yourself hear yet? What might be on the other side of actually sitting with it?

Your Nervous System Is Trying to Tell You Ott on Unsplash

We make most of our decisions from the neck up.

We analyze, weigh, compare, consult, deliberate. We build cases for and against. We fill journals and spreadsheets and talk it through with people we trust. And all of that has its place. But somewhere in the middle of all that thinking, we often bypass the most honest source of information available to us.

The body.

Not in a mystical way. In a deeply practical, physiological way. Your nervous system has been tracking your life far longer than your conscious mind has been narrating it. It remembers every time you ignored a red flag and paid for it. Every time you overrode a quiet knowing and ended up somewhere you did not want to be. Every time you said yes from obligation and felt the slow drain of it afterward. That history lives in you, encoded not in memories you can easily access but in sensations. In the way your chest tightens before a meeting you have been dreading. In the ease that settles into your shoulders when a decision finally feels right. In the shallow breathing that shows up when something is off, even when you cannot yet name what.

Most of us have learned to override those signals so efficiently that we barely notice them anymore.

We call the tightness stress and push through it. We rationalize the dread as nerves and show up anyway. We tell ourselves the unease is just resistance, just fear of change, just the discomfort of growth, and sometimes that is true. But sometimes it is not resistance. Sometimes it is wisdom. And the difference between the two is worth learning to feel.

Getting quiet enough to notice is the practice. And it does not require an hour of meditation or a silent retreat, though both can help. It requires a few minutes of genuine stillness and a willingness to ask, without immediately answering, how does this actually feel in my body right now?

Notice where the breath goes. Notice what tightens and what releases. Notice whether there is a quality of aliveness or a quality of dread underneath the surface of the decision you are sitting with. Notice whether the yes you are about to say feels like expansion or like bracing.

These are not small signals. They are a guidance system that has been with you your entire life, quietly available and largely ignored.

In the short term, learning to listen changes the quality of your decisions. In the long term, it changes the quality of your life. Because a life built on choices made in alignment with your deepest knowing, rather than in defiance of it, feels fundamentally different from the inside. Steadier. More honest. More yours.

You do not have to have it all figured out this Friday. But you can get quiet for five minutes before the weekend begins and simply check in. Not with your to-do list or your inbox or the week’s scorecard. With yourself.

What is your body telling you right now that your mind has been too busy to hear? And what might it be worth doing with that information?

Happy Foundfully Friday. The answers are closer than you think.

Starting Again Doesn’t Mean Starting Over

There’s a version of The clean slate. The blank page. The Monday where everything changes because you finally decided to change it.

I don’t buy it, and honestly, neither do you. Not really.

Most of us aren’t starting from zero. We’re starting again with everything we already carry: the years of experience, the version of ourselves that got tired, the goals we quietly stopped saying out loud because saying them out loud started to feel embarrassing. That’s not a clean slate. That’s a full one.

And that’s exactly why it feels so hard to begin.

Here’s what I’ve noticed working with high-achievers who are standing at some kind of edge, a new role, a business they’re finally building for real, a relationship with themselves they’re trying to rebuild after years of performing instead of living. The hardest part was never the plan. Most of you already have a plan, or three. The hardest part is believing you’re allowed to walk through the door you already opened.

That belief doesn’t show up because you read the right book or set the right goal. It shows up in small moments. The first time you say the truth out loud instead of the polished version. The first time you ask for support instead of proving you don’t need it. The first time you let someone see you mid-process instead of only after you’ve figured it out.

Those are the real first days. Not the ones on a calendar.

So before we talk strategy, before we build the plan, I want to ask you something simpler:

	•	What’s the one thing you need to feel true on day one of this next chapter, before you need anything else to be true?

	•	Thinking back to a time you actually felt like you belonged somewhere, what made that possible? Palash on Unsplash

There is something quietly reassuring about returning to a routine.

Not the kind that grinds you down, the one that runs on autopilot and leaves you wondering where the week went. But the kind you choose deliberately. The one that holds you without constraining you. The rhythm that gives your days a shape so that what matters inside them actually has room to breathe.

After the looser pace of summer, that return can feel jarring at first. The earlier alarm. The fuller calendar. The shift from spontaneous to scheduled. And yet, underneath that initial adjustment, most people I know find something genuinely grounding in it. A sense of being back in the current of their own life rather than floating pleasantly beside it.

Cycles exist for a reason.

Nature has always known this. Summer does its expansive, generous, slow-down-and-receive work, and then autumn arrives with its natural invitation to gather, focus, and create. The energy shifts and the days shorten and something in us responds, often before we are even conscious of it, with a readiness to build. To begin. To bring the ideas that surfaced in the quiet back into the world in a more intentional form.

This is one of the most underused opportunities in a working year. The return to routine is not just an administrative reset, a matter of syncing calendars and clearing inboxes. It is a genuine inflection point. A chance to look at how your days are structured and ask whether that structure is actually serving who you are right now, and who you are becoming, rather than simply resuming what existed before the summer interrupted it.

What if the new routine looked a little different from the old one? What if the morning started with something that actually sets the tone rather than something that immediately pulls you into someone else’s agenda? What if one afternoon a week was protected for the project you keep saying you will get to? What if the rhythm you rebuilt this fall was designed around the life and work you actually want, not inherited from the version of yourself that needed a break three months ago?

Routines are not cages. In the right hands they are containers for creativity. Structures that make the important things more likely, not less.

The new season is here. The rhythm is returning. The only question worth asking is what you want this particular rhythm to make possible.

What is one thing you want your fall routine to protect, create space for, or finally make room for that summer quietly reminded you matters?

Sometimes the Most Powerful Thing You Can Do Is Listen

We are very good at solving things.

Foundfully

We are very good at solving things.

Those of us who are wired for growth, for efficiency, for finding the better way, walk into almost every conversation with that instinct already running. We hear a problem and something in us immediately begins assembling the solution. We see an inefficiency and our minds are already three steps ahead, redesigning the process before the other person has finished their sentence.

It is one of our greatest strengths. And it is sometimes the thing that gets most in the way.

Because not every conversation is asking to be solved. Not every person sharing a struggle is requesting your roadmap. Not every business in an early or uncertain season needs someone to swoop in with the optimized version of what they are still in the middle of figuring out.

Growth, real growth, in a person or a business, does not always move in straight lines or respond to the most logical intervention. Sometimes it needs to move at its own pace, through its own discoveries, making its own mistakes. And the most valuable thing you can offer in those moments is not your solution. It is your presence. Your patience. Your willingness to sit with someone in the uncertainty without rushing them out of it.

That is not passive. It is one of the most disciplined and generous things you can practice.

Listening without fixing is its own kind of expertise. And the relationships, professional and personal, where you have truly offered that tend to be the ones that go the deepest and last the longest.

Where in your life or work are you solving when you could be listening? light, the easier pace, the afternoons that stretch without agenda. And underneath all of it, for many driven, ambitious people, a quiet voice that says you should be doing more. That the slower days are somehow setting you back. That everyone else is out there building while you are sitting still.

I want to gently challenge that story.

Summer is not a pause in your progress. It is part of it. And if you let it, it might be one of the most useful seasons your business and your life will have all year.

There is something that becomes possible in slower days that the relentless pace of the rest of the year rarely allows. You can actually see your own life clearly. The distance that summer creates, from the grind, from the routine, from the noise of constant output, is not emptiness. It is perspective. And perspective is one of the most valuable and underrated ingredients in good decision making.

This is the season to notice what energized you in the first half of the year and what quietly depleted you. What is working in your business and what you have been tolerating because you were too busy to address it. Which relationships filled you and which ones you maintained out of habit rather than genuine connection. What you said yes to that you would say no to now, and what you kept putting off that is actually important.

Summer is not the season to have all the answers. It is the season to ask better questions, so that when September arrives and the energy naturally shifts back into motion, you are moving in a direction you actually chose rather than simply resuming what you left behind in June.

The most grounded, effective leaders I know treat this time of year as a quiet audit. Not a formal one. Just an honest one. A chance to sit with what is real, let things settle, and allow clarity to surface at its own pace.

Rest and reflection are not the opposite of progress. They are how progress gets its bearings.

What is this summer quietly showing you about what you want more of, and what you are ready to leave behind when fall arrives?

250 Years and a Quiet Island

Today the United States turns 250 years It is one of those days where the noise of the world feels very far away and something quieter and more essential takes its place.

There is something fitting about that, actually.

Independence, at its core, has always been less about fireworks and more about the courage to imagine something different and dare to build toward it. Two hundred and fifty years ago a group of people, imperfect and complicated as all humans are, decided that the life and the world they had been handed was not the only version possible. That there was another way. That it was worth the risk to find out.

I think about that a lot in the work I do. The willingness to question what you have been given. To ask whether the path you are on is actually yours or simply the one that was handed to you. To choose, deliberately and with eyes open, something that fits more honestly with who you are and what you actually believe is possible.

That kind of courage never goes out of style.

So today, wherever you are spending it, whether it is loud and celebratory or quiet and reflective, I hope you find a moment of genuine stillness in it. It is a deeply personal one.

What does feeling genuinely free look like in your life right now? behind or hidden.

The curious part. The one that sees patterns nobody else notices, that wants to try something sideways when the straight line isn’t working. The part that finds a problem genuinely fascinating instead of just annoying.

Most of us learned early that creativity is for artists. That business is the serious thing, and the serious thing has a format.

So we follow the format. And then we wonder why work feels hollow.

Here’s what I’ve seen with the clients I work with: satisfaction at work rarely comes from doing more of the same thing better. It comes from finding places where you’re actually making something. Shaping something. Where your fingerprints are on the outcome.

That doesn’t require a creative title or a different job. It requires noticing where the room exists.

Where can you approach a recurring problem like it’s new? Where can you propose something that doesn’t have a precedent yet? Where can you swap the template for your own thinking?

These aren’t big moves. But they change everything about how Mondays feel.

The businesses I admire most aren’t the ones that hired creative people. They’re the ones that stopped telling their people to check their curiosity at the door.

You don’t need permission to bring more of yourself to your work.

You need to notice where you’ve been holding back, and ask what would happen if you didn’t.

What’s one place in your work where you could try something you’ve never tried before? next, but something keeps you from doing it. Where you’ve been having the same conversation with yourself for months. Where a part of you already knows the answer, but you haven’t let yourself act on it yet.

That kind of stuck.

I see it all the time. In founders who have outgrown their current version of the business. In executives who are good at their jobs but quietly miserable. In people who are capable of so much more but somehow can’t get out of their own way.

Here’s what I know: this is not a planning problem. You don’t need another framework or a better morning routine. You need to get honest about what is actually in the way, and then do something about it.

Summer is an interesting time for this. Things slow down just enough to feel the weight of what you’ve been carrying. The question is whether you use that window to think differently or just wait for September to reset the clock.

If you’re feeling the pull to make a move this summer, I have a few spots open for new clients through a short-term intensive called the Summer Unstuck Sprint. Three months, two sessions a month, one clear focus. No fluff. Just real work.

Details are below if you want to take a look or schedule a complimentary session to walk through your needs and wants.

And if now is not the right time, I get it. But if something in this landed, sit with it. Sometimes the most useful thing you can do is notice what resonates.

As always, my door is open.

Complimentary Unstuck Discovery Sometimes it is just a flatness that settles in. A loss of enthusiasm for things that used to energize you. A shorter fuse. A creativity that has gone quiet. A sense of going through the motions without really being present in any of them.

We notice it and then, almost immediately, we negotiate with it. Just one more week. After this deadline. Once things calm down. As though rest is something that has to be earned rather than something the body and mind genuinely require to function at their best.

But here is what I know to be true. You can push past the warning light for a while. Most driven people are very good at this. The problem is that the further you push past it, the longer the recharge takes. What a good night’s sleep would have fixed in February becomes a week you need in April and a month you are desperate for by July.

Recharging is not a luxury reserved for people with less on their plate. It is a biological and psychological necessity. And more than that, it is a strategy. The decisions you make when you are genuinely rested are different from the ones you make running on fumes. The ideas that surface when you have given your mind actual space to breathe are different from the ones that squeeze through the noise of an overloaded week.

Rest does not slow you down. It is what makes the speed sustainable.

You already know what recharges you. The walk that has nothing to do with productivity. The meal without a screen. The conversation that fills you rather than drains you. The morning where nothing is required of you yet and you actually let yourself feel that.

The question is not whether you need it. You do. The question is whether you are willing to prioritize it before the warning light becomes something harder to ignore.

What does genuine recharging look like for you? And when did you last actually do it?

The Fathers We Carry

Happy Father’s everyone who reads them.

For some, today is warm and uncomplicated. A call, a meal, a moment of genuine gratitude for a man who was there, not perfectly, but consistently. Who made you feel like you belonged and that you were worth showing up for. If that is your story, celebrate it fully today. That kind of presence is a gift worth naming out loud.

For others, today is quieter and more complicated. A father who was physically present but emotionally somewhere else entirely. One who left. One you are still trying to make peace with. One you have already lost. Grief and gratitude can occupy the same day, and if today brings both, that is more than okay. It is human.

And then there are the women doing this alone. Loving enough for two, stretching themselves in ways no one fully sees, making sure a child feels held even when the structure that should be holding them is missing. Today belongs to them too, fully and without qualification.

We carry all of it. The warmth and the longing. The gratitude and the grief. The memories we treasure and the ones we are still trying to understand. Even an absent father leaves a mark, and sometimes the most profound growth comes from examining exactly what that mark taught us about who we are, what we needed, and what we chose to become in spite of or because of it.

Nothing about that is small. And none of it is wasted.

Who are you thinking of today? And what did they teach you, whether they meant to or not?
