Please public release of DotDevelop for Windows (zip-archive or msi). #157
Each fork has its own goal, and this one focuses more on Linux support and GTK3 upgrade.
It's not obvious whether the time is right yet for developers of this repo to shift efforts on a Windows installer, but you can contact @MakiWolf who has been working on some Windows related commit in the pull requests.
The other fork is quite old and targets version 7.8.4. In Dotdevelop we are now at the last version 8.6 with all the latest commits from the now archived monodevelop.
This branch removes the wpf text editor and use the gtk from Linux on windows.
Here you can found a description for the build and known problems.
The only way is actual to compile it from source. Also note the windows related things are not merged in main branch now and are quite experimental. So currently an installer with precompiled Dotdevelop to download does not make sense. Maybe in future.
but I also could not evaluate the assembly, because when creating a solution, an invalid solution name error occurs. There is also no line where you need to enter the name of the new solution. If you open a previously created solution, an error also occurs.
In general, I just need a lightweight fast and easy modern C# code editor to which I can connect assemblies and use code completion.
Now I'm using build 5.9.6 because, are no truly workable and bug-free monodevelop build versions on windows platform. 5.9.6 works reliably, but apparently there exists some kind of memory leak and after a short time the function of inserting from the buffer stops working or it does an incorrect insertion, some functions like undo/redo stop working. It supports the syntax Net Framework 4.5 and the C#6 syntax. And what syntax does the latest build of dotdeveloper support?
The only way is actual to compile it from source.
@MakiWolf I think this is bad because there are no normally working builds for Windows at all. There is a similar message on the official website of MonoDevelop. There you can download the version for Linux or MacOs. But if you choose Windows,
you will be offered to download Visual Studio and compile the source code in it. Is a MonoDevelop really so weak that it can’t compile itself without Visual Studio? I don't know all the details but it looks strange, like some kind of discredit. Or a dubious marketing ploy.

@lextm After I had already written a message, I found the MonoDevelop 7.8 Beta 1 assembly on your page,
https://github.com/lextm/monodevelop-windows/releases
but I also could not evaluate the assembly, because when creating a solution, an invalid solution name error occurs. There is also no line where you need to enter the name of the new solution. If you open a previously created solution, an error also occurs.

I abandoned that in 2021. So, don't expect anything new from my side.
Then why turn to MonoDevelop? It is neither lightweight nor modern compared to VS Code with C# Dev Kit.

Ok.
Yes, perhaps you are right, new builds of monodevelop are heavy. Although I can't verify this.
