Impact
REQUIRED: Choose either Tooling Impact or Customer Impact (or both). At least one checkbox must be selected.
Tooling Impact
Adds Azure Linux 4 packaging support, filename validation, package mappings, and packaging tests to the release tooling.
Customer Impact
Adds native PowerShell RPM packages for Azure Linux 4 on x86_64 and aarch64, enabling installation through the preview and stable package feeds.
Regression
REQUIRED: Check exactly one box.
This is not a regression.
Testing
The original PR reports 32 targeted packaging and package-name tests passed. For this backport, PowerShell parser checks on the changed module and tests passed, and git diff --check passed. The targeted Pester tests were not run locally; CI must pass before merge.
Risk
REQUIRED: Check exactly one box.
This changes RPM package generation, dependency selection, package validation, and repository mappings for a new Linux distribution. The v7.6 backport preserves its .NET 10 runtime contract, and CI validation is required before merge.
Merge Conflicts
Resolved tools/packaging/packaging.psm1 by adding azl4 to the existing cm dependency branch while retaining the v7.6 .NET 10 runtime dependency and documentation; updated the new packaging test to expect dotnet-runtime-10.0 instead of master’s dotnet-runtime-11.0. This follows the adaptation documented in closed prior attempt #28109, which was closed in favor of backporting the merged original PR.
