- Photos: photos and videos on your Umbrel show up in the new Photos app, and Umbrel for iPhone backs up your entire camera roll automatically.
- Machines: run Windows, Ubuntu, Debian, Android, and more right inside your Umbrel, with the full desktop in a browser tab.
- Multi-user: everyone in your household gets their own account, home screen, and private home folder. Share only the apps and folders you choose.
- Storage Manager: combine multiple internal drives into one space, or turn on FailSafe (RAID) to stay protected if a drive fails.
- AI agents: connect any AI agent to the built-in MCP server to install apps, organize files, or troubleshoot issues, with only the access you allow.
- GPU acceleration: apps like Ollama and Jellyfin can use NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel GPUs, including Thunderbolt eGPUs.
- Bring your cloud home: import your files from Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, iCloud, and more in one go, or keep them backing up continuously.
- New app settings: point any app at folders on external or network drives, or move entire apps to an external drive.
- Umbrel for Mac: the Mac app adds your Umbrel as a drive in Finder, at home or remotely over Tailscale.

umbrelOS is free and complete on any hardware. The image you install on your own device is the same umbrelOS that ships on Umbrel Home and Umbrel Pro, with the same features and the same updates.
- Intel and AMD devices: umbrelOS supports most 64-bit mini PCs, laptops, desktops, NAS boxes, and servers. Minimum requirements: Dual-core CPU, 4 GB RAM (8 GB+ recommended), and a 32 GB drive for umbrelOS. umbrelOS boots from one drive and uses the rest for apps and data.
- Raspberry Pi 5: boot from an NVMe or USB drive rather than a microSD card.
- Virtual machines: Proxmox, VirtualBox, VMware, or anything else that supports EFI boot.
A few features depend on your hardware. Storage Manager and FailSafe need two or more internal NVMe or SATA drives, and GPU acceleration needs an NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel GPU on an Intel or AMD machine.

Note
umbrelOS is a standalone operating system that installs directly onto your device. It can't be installed on top of an existing Linux distribution.
