Summary

  • Add uap17:UpdateWhileInUse with the defer setting to the PowerShell MSIX manifest.
  • Register the uap17 namespace and include it in IgnorableNamespaces.
  • Preserve the existing minimum supported Windows version.

Why

Microsoft Store updates can terminate running PowerShell sessions, interrupting active commands and long-running processes.

On supported Windows versions, the new manifest setting instructs Windows to defer application updates until the application restarts or the system reboots.

Validation

  • git diff --check — passed.
  • XML parsing of assets/AppxManifest.xml — passed.
  • Verified that UpdateWhileInUse resolves to defer under the correct namespace.
  • Verified that uap17 is included in IgnorableNamespaces.

An end-to-end Microsoft Store update test was not performed. MSIX packaging and deployment behavior still require validation.

🔵 Needs a closer look

Windows MSIX packaging and deployment remain unvalidated, including installation on older supported builds and Store-update deferral without terminating active pwsh sessions.
